The department assists all City departments with any animal issues that may arise. Complaints about animals are taken through the Blackwell Police Dispatch Office. The department utilizes every method available to control animal populations within the city and place animals that are in need of good homes in appropriate places. The department has a site at www.petfinder.com where animals available for adoption can be viewed. The department also works with other agencies and non-profit organizations on foster, adoption programs and assistance for abused animals. John Gerian, Animal Control Officer John Gerian has been the Animal Control Officer for 5 years. He is assisted in his department by one part-time employee. The Blackwell Animal Shelter is located at the end of East Stevens Street and animals that are adoptable may be seen at that address.
