CITY OF BLACKWELL, OKLAHOMA
News
Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - November 5, 2009
Due to cuts in the state budget, funding for the Meals on Wheels and
Wheatheart Nutrition Program have been lessened so that the program
cannot run on Fridays. This creates a hardship for many local
communities, such as Blackwell, that serves 120 people daily. Due
to the fact that many of these people are shut-ins that rely on this
daily meal, this group of people will go without a balanced meal three
consecutive days. In a commitment to provide for the people of our
community that need assistance with meals several community groups such
as the Chamber of Commerce and the Ministerial Alliance, have joined
forces in an effort to raise funds to keep the Blackwell program open
and serving the community on Fridays. Donations to the program are
critical. Some donations have been made, however, the cost of
feeding this number of people is $500.00 daily. Donations are
being taken by Vonda at the Wheatheart Nutrition Center and Mike Jeffers
at the Chamber of Commerce. Thank you in advance for your kindness
and consideration in feeding those in our community that may not be able
to feed themselves.
